Week 36
We finished all our NWEA MAP tests this week! They have tried their best and so many of them have reached their goals. I am very proud of them! We also worked almost everyday on our IB PYP final project--Building a Home for the Animal. We shared our research from last weekend and we started recording our project on the journal. Each group has discussed what they need to build the home for their animal and how they can make the items they need. We encourage them to be creative and problem solver when working on bringing the materials/supplies they need for their animal's home. They have been really collaboratively working as a group and excited to create things they need for the home. They are asked to choose some materials to bring on next Monday according to their interest and talent. We cherish the process of this project because it is not only the opportunity for them to work as a team collaboratively and creatively but also to take responsibility and face failure and overcome it to be successful in the end.

Week 34
Last Saturday GALA had about 20 students competed on the final round of Ohio Chinese Speech contest at CSU. After all the hard work and endless effort everyone has presented their best to the judges and received their awards! I am so proud of my Kindergarteners! It was not easy but they completed the job!
This week we kept learning about our IB PYP unit. We did an activity of sorting living and Nonliving, and we started learning about 6 different habitats. We practiced to help different animals find their home habitats and discovered that same animal could live in different habitats. Next week for our IB PYP unit we will keep learning about the habitats and what different animals need for their living environment. As our learning continues we will get the the phase that we need to use different materials to build a home for their selected animals as our final project and assessment. At thet time we will need many recycled materials like various sized card board boxes, toilet paper rolls/paper towel rolls, different rocks, sand, gravels... Please start helping us save those items if you come across them. Thank you in advance!
For Math we are learning about numbers to 100. Please have them practice counting to 100 in Chinese and ask them what is one more/less than a number between 0-100. It is also important to make sure they know how to write the number if you say a number between 0-100. They tend to mix ten digit place number with one digit place number, like thirty five and they would write 53. We also have been practice skip counting by 10 and by 5. Keep practicing those skills at home or the commute time in the car.
For Mandarin, we have learned all the new characters in the last unit. Besides that we started our first Chinese writing project. Our gaol is to finish 10 writing practice in the next few weeks. It is amazing to see how much they can do now!
For Science, we had the opportunity to have everyone hold the red worms and observe the structure of the worm. We will learnabout how to create a home for the redworm. Wanstun Laoshi did a great job teaching them and taking care of all the worms and fishes.
This Thursday we went on the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Train ride to Penisula. On the train ride Ranger Sage guided all the students to use their five sences to fell how the animals in the park to find food and live. iChineseReader Instruction
Welcome to iChineseReader! It is a wonderful reading resource! We can use it at school and at home. You can log in through their website or download their APP. Please practice logging in and reading these books daily. The suggested number is one to two books a day. They can earn points by completing the reading assignment. Those points can be used to decorate and play games. Except reading after the book, they also can record their own reading through the program. It's very easy to do. Please encourage them to try the recording. It is fun to hear their own voice and it's a great way to gain confidence in speaking Chinese. They don't have to complete the quiz after each book. Repeated reading is encouraged to achieve reading fluency. They may explore other books if they complete reading all the books from the assignment. Happy reading!

Another great way to practice Mandarin at home!
Dear Families,
I have created a study set for all the fruits we are learning on Quizlet. It’s a website for practicing vocabularies by using flash cards and playing fun games. Please click this link https://quizlet.com/join/P3y6w9e93 and join GALA-Dragon Class to practice. Let me know if you have any questions.
Happy learning,
